Auditions
The Audition Process
Throughout the year, NIYPAA visits schools in each state speaking to students about the choral and dance opportunities offered by NIYPAA and conducts preliminary auditions for singers. Following this presentation, parents of interested students are encouraged to telephone their state office and arrange a time for their child to attend a
Final Audition for the program for thier choice.
If your child did not take part in a preliminary audition at their school and is interested in joining, you can contact us throughout the year to arrange an additional audition time (see
Arrange an Audition below).
IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO JOIN A CHOIR OR LEARN TO DANCE !

About the Audition
Here’s what you can expect to happen in the audition.
There will be a series of exercises to determine what you know and what your voice sounds like. Exercises will include:
• Aural / Rhythm Activities - These are easy and will involve some clapping and some listening)
• Singing Activities - You might be asked to copy some short melodies or tunes.
• We will teach you a song.
• You will sing with the group and with the auditioner
Audition Tips
We know that you’ll probably feel a little nervous on audition day so here are a few tips for you to think about before you come.
• It is normal to feel a bit nervous.
• Take some deep breaths before you go in to the audition room and try to relax and enjoy yourself.
• Don’t worry if you’ve never auditioned for anything like this before. Most of the young people who audition each year do so for the first time.
• All choristers and dancers must go though the audition process.
• The audition will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes
You don’t have to prepare anything.
There will be a group of other children auditioning with you, so you won’t be on your own.
For Mum and Dad
• The audition will allow our staff to decide where a child is best placed to begin their experience with NIYPAA.
• Parents are welcome to watch the audition, but we ask for your understanding in regard to younger siblings who can often be a distraction in the audition process.
As consecutive auditions are held on the day, it will not be possible to speak to the Auditioner, however a Manager is in attendance to assist with any questions.
