About the Australian
Youth Choir
"A SOUND EXPERIENCE"

The Australian Youth Choir (AYC), incorporated
in 1975, is a division of the National Institute of Youth Performing
Arts - Australia (NIYPAA), governed by a Board of Directors. As
a private organisation, that does not receive financial assistance
from any government authority or corporate entity, funding is derived
from tuition fees, concert performances and merchandising. The
Choir does not undertake any fundraising activities. Under the
choir’s management profile and organisational framework a
structured course of study in choral arts is offered.
A choral repertoire is selected including
a wide variety of choral styles from early to contemporary music.
In addition to the weekly rehearsal programme, the Choir undertakes
three major Concerts each year:
• Autumn Concert
Series (May)
• International
Concert Tour (May/June)
• Spring Concert
Series (October/November)
The Autumn and Spring Concerts are shared
with the National Youth Dance Theatre.
It is the Choir's policy that all choral students involved in the
programme have the opportunity to perform at these concerts. Within
the organisation, specialist choirs ie. Chamber, Recital and Performing
Choirs, have the opportunity to perform publicly on other occasions
throughout the year.
The Choir has established rehearsal
centres throughout metropolitan and regional areas in five
states of Australia.
