the AYC 2008 International Concert Tour

BARCELONA, LISBON, LONDON, MADRID & ROME

The Australian Youth Choir explored new performing territory in 2008 with a concert tour that included Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon for the first time. The tour provided our choristers with some memorable performance opportunities and magnificent sight seeing adventures.

Amongst the many highlights were:

  • A walking tour of Imperial Rome including the Roman Forum and the house of the Vestal Virgins
  • A day at the Vatican, taking part in the Papal Audience in St Peter’s Square
  • Visiting the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel
  • Visit to the Colosseum and the Catacombs
  • Concert at the Australian Embassy, Rome
  • Concert at a Roman School.
  • Travel to Tivoli to visit Villa Adriana built by the Emperor Hadrian
  • Barcelona
  • Performance in Montserrat,1220m above sea level
  • Attend Montserrat Boy’s choir performance
  • Performance in Zaragoza
  • Travel to Madrid – tour of the city, witness the architecture of Madrid - Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassic, Romantic and Modern periods are all represented . Madrid is known as the city of culture and lively atmosphere and is named ‘the city that never sleeps’
  • The Prado Museum, Casa del Campo- the cable car over Madrid, the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral
  • Schools performances in Madrid
  • Concert and Sight seeing in Toledo
  • Concert and sight seeing in Trujillo
  • Take part in the May festival in Cáceres
  • Afternoon performance in Evora
  • Sight seeing in Lisbon - Liberty Avenue, Rossio and Black Horse Squares and St George's Castle. The striking monastery of Jeronimos and the Maritime Museum.
  • Afternoon concert at the Australian Embassy
  • Sight seeing in London - viewing the major highlights of both the West End and the City. Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and the Tower of London
  • A visit to the Science Museum, one of the most popular museums in the UK with its interactive approach to science and a cruise on the Thames to Greenwich, the home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Meridian Line
  • Concerts at several London schools
  • Concert at St Paul’s Cathedral
