Australian Youth Choir - Rehearsal Programme

Rehearsals are conducted on a weekly basis during the school term. There are no rehearsals conducted during the school holidays or on Public Holidays except for Performing Arts School.

Open Rehearsals: Each term, parents are invited to attend a rehearsal to observe the curriculum programme.

Combined Rehearsals: Prior to each concert, choristers are offered the opportunity to combine with other groups from their rehearsal venue.

Special rehearsals: Occasionally additional rehearsal are scheduled. These rehearsals will be published in the Diary Date section of the Newsletter.

Apologies: Written notice is to be forwarded to the Rehearsal Manager at rehearsal if a student is absent from any rehearsal or performance.

Rehearsal Material: At rehearsal, students are provided with music for the year's training programme. All material remains at the rehearsal venue and is the property of the Australian Youth Choir.

Correspondence: Newsletters are distributed regularly at rehearsal venues; a Diary Date section is printed on the reverse advising families of forthcoming events.

Rehearsal and Concert Commitment

All choristers are offered the opportunity to:
• perform at three concerts as organised by the Australian Youth Choir
• attend the Performing Arts School.

Level 1 (Probationer Choir) students rehearse for one hour each week

Level 2 (Training Choir) students rehearse for one hour each week

Level 3 (Performing Choir) students rehearse for one and a half hours each week and are also expected to attend additional performances as scheduled.

Level 4 (Recital Choir) students are selected by annual audition from members of the Performing Choirs. They attend two weekly rehearsals, once at their rehearsal venue as a member of the Performing Choir and the other as a member of the Recital Choir at a central rehearsal location.

Level 5 (Chamber Choir) students are specially selected by annual audition. They attend a central rehearsal venue once a week for three hours as a separate group and also combine with the Recital Choir. The Chamber Choir perform at many additional public performances.

It is the policy of the Australian Youth Choir to enrol students from the age of seven years through to the conclusion of their secondary education.

In order to honour their commitment, students need to attend their weekly rehearsal and maintain the dress and behaviour code. The Board of Directors reserves the right to terminate a student’s association with Australian Youth Choir should there be failure to comply with these expectations.

Code of Conduct

Rehearsal and performance conduct codes are made available to all families at the commencement of the year. Students are expected to respect their fellow students to allow participation in a secure environment. In addition, students are required to respect property at the venues used by the Australian Youth Choir and agree that any damage caused by the student will be the responsibility of the family.
