The AYDT Dance
education programme
The Australian Youth Dance Theatre provides
opportunity for young people to be able to express themselves
through dance within the medium of musical theatre. A structured
curriculum is chosen for all dancers including a variety of dance
styles and music selections within the jazz genré. The
Dance Theatre provides the management and organisational framework
within which the talents and abilities of student dancers are
nurtured. A challenging repertoire is selected for students at
all levels.
The Dance Theatre employs qualified dance
teachers with an interest and expertise in professional dance
theatre.
The following teaching principals are included
in the basic syllabus over four levels covering:
• Co-ordination and rhythm skills
• Structured exercises to develop technique
• Artistry and personal development
• Expressiveness and musicality
• Performance skills
Training in these areas will assist the
development of self-confidence, memory training, co-ordination
skills and self-discipline.
It is expected that all students,
having made a commitment to the Dance Theatre, will complete
the training programme for that particular year.
Annual Assessments
All dancers are assessed twice yearly within the supportive environment
of the rehearsal programme. Parents and dancers will be furnished
with a report in November. The Annual Report will advise parents
and dancers of their placement for the following year. Progression
to the next level is determined by each
individual’s dance development.
